What are your thoughts on the $6.5 million paid for Australian landscape photographer Peter Lik’s photo, ‘Phantom’.
It was interesting to see the reaction across the web regarding the amount paid. Some are claiming it was a publicity stunt to promote his galleries and to boost sales of his works. While others are stating that photography is not art and that, “it looks like a posh poster you might find framed in a pretentious hotel room.” and that the use of B&W is “outmoded style can only be nostalgic and affected, an “arty” special effect”. Which ever way you look at it, photography, like art is subjective. What appeals to one may not appeal to another. It’s worth is measured by how much someone is willing to pay for it.
If someone want give me $6.5m for one of my images, I’m not going to argue.
